About CORE++

CORE++ is an association of highly experienced, globally operating partners from various businesses that provides high-quality registry management solutions. It has emerged from the Council of Registrars (CORE), which was the first operable ICANN accredited registrar in 1999, by adding new ideas for superior registry services, and new partners for technological and financial strength.

We are aware that the .net infrastructure is vital for the overall Internet, and that ensuring a secure and stable operation of the .net registry is a challenging and responsible task.

We do feel strongly that this task should be assigned to an organization that does not only have the proven ability to accomplish it, but that also represents the interests of the global Internet community. We believe that CORE++ is the most qualified, stable, and responsible registry operator.

The members of CORE++ are selected partners that form exactly the profile that is necessary to accomplish this demanding task:

  • Experienced national and international domain registrars
  • Registry operators (.aero and .museum)
  • Internet Service Provider and Carrier
  • Telecommunication companies (for infrastructure)

Additionally, CORE++ has relied upon the support of professional partners for the preparation of the proposal for designation as the successor registry operator for .net (especially by Deloitte for financial aspects and in the creation of the business plan).

We have established very demanding criteria when selecting these partners. Here are some of the points that an aspirant had to fulfill:

  • very experienced in the domain business
  • successful operation of a registry in the respective region
  • global diversity
  • active cooperation in international committees (like ICANN, IETF, ISOC, gNSO, Registrars Constituency)
  • transparent and open mode of operation
  • support of the local community

The expertise of the CORE++ members covers all areas of the domain business and enables CORE++ to provide world-class domain name registry services that fully meet and exceed all the criteria set forth by the ICANN Board.

CORE++ provides world-class domain name registry services

CORE++ members have always played a leading role in developing the protocols, procedures (i.e. for ensuring equality), systems and software to administer competitive domain name registration. CORE's Shared Registry System (SRS) and Domain Name Service are deployed on computer systems around the world to administer the worldwide registration of new names on the Internet. We have been the first in the world to apply a Shared Registry System to a generic top level domain, and we even realized it with a real time registry (.aero).

CORE++ and its members have already been accomplishing challenging, technical tasks for years. For example, CORE++ member NIDA (National Internet Development Agency of Korea) has played a leading role in the development of Internationalized Domain Names (IDN).

We have proven more than once that we have the technical and organizational means and abilities to set up and operate a real time registry on a high level of security, performance, efficiency, stability, and comfort.

Today, CORE++ provides registry services for more than 1,800,000 domains.

Beyond all of that, we also have a financial background that enables us to guarantee for a stable operation of the .net registry.

CORE++ represents the global internet community

CORE++ definitely is a global solution. While the CORE++ headquarters are located in Barcelona, Spain, our members and partners come from all over the world. We have partners in Austria, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Monaco, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, The Netherlands and The United States.

We believe that this global diversity is an important strength of CORE++, and also a great chance. That is why we offer assistance in three, different support centers all over the world, to be available 24/7 and in eight different languages (see below).

In addition to that, the CORE++ members are aware of their responsibility for important parts of the Internet. They are all characterized by their continuing support and work with the worldwide Internet community to ensure and further improve the quality and stability of the Interment and to facilitate its long-term growth.

CORE was founded in 1997 with the intention of bringing more competition to the field of top level domain administration, since the community needs diversity in this area to get lower prices, more freedom and better service. At that time, VeriSign had the function as a Registry and a Registrar in one entity, for the .com, .net and .org TLDs. The designation of .net can be seen as a result of the process that was started by CORE to break that monopoly.

We believe that the global Internet community is the most vital part of the Internet and that for every important decision, the community should be taken into account. For example, CORE++ would never introduce something like a SiteFinder without consultation from the community. And with CORE++, a test run is nothing other than a test run.

CORE++ understands itself as a neutral service provider to the whole Internet community that wants to facilitate the continued betterment of the Internet.

CORE++ adds value to .net

The members of CORE++ have great expertise in all fields that are relevant for ensuring a stable operation of the .net registry. What is more, we have utilized our extensive experience to improve the existing systems and to develop new ideas. This allows us to to add value to .net and to provide sophisticated registration services on a superior level.

Some of the advantages that the operation of the .net registry by CORE++ will bring are the following:

  • Focus on security (DNSSEC, Domain Protection Service)
  • Numerous facilitations for the registrars, including secondary market aspects (Auction Model)
  • Significant price reductions (CORE++ will even bear the 75-cent domain fee)
